The Story “I remember one time when I was a child and waking up to the smell of doughnuts around 2 am. I went downstairs to find my dad in the kitchen with a cookbook opened making doughnuts! He let me stay up and help him. There were other times growing up where he would let me stay up to assist. When I went off to college, I would call home and ask him ‘What’s on the menu’ for that day? He would tell me and if it was something I liked, I would recreate it. The ‘What’s on the Menu?’ became a ritual when we spoke. When my father passed in 2006, his brothers continued the ‘What’s on the Menu?’ tradition with me.
